How Suffering Healed me
What if I want to be “hard” on myself?
At the beginning stages of my self-development journey, I would often get frustrated when someone would say, “You’re human, don’t be so hard on yourself.”
To me this sounded like…
“You are just a human, there is so much you can do.”
This seemed super limiting and felt as though I was being placed in a box. A constricting, suffocating box. At the time, I was opening up to a vast space, an unknown place within myself and I wanted to know more. I began challenging beliefs around and not limited to what it means to be happy, what love was, what being successful means for me, what was the point of life, what was the point of my life, and who I truly was, beyond the facades and masks I had worn for so many years.
On some level, I wanted to be “hard” on myself because who I was, was based on a series of false-beliefs that did not sit well with me. It was equally lonely, as it was liberating. I wanted to learn more and man, did I learn a lot over the years.
